Community Hospitality Healthcare Services deployed $11.5 million in New Markets Tax Credit allocation to Native American Health Center, Inc. to support the development of a ~14,000 square foot clinical and community facility in Oakland’s Fruitvale District. The new facility, operated by a Federally Qualified Health Center that has served the Bay Area’s indigenous community since 1972, will deliver integrated medical, behavioral health, and dental services to a severely distressed, medically underserved community.
The project carries particular weight given the health disparities facing the community it serves. NAHC has served urban communities across the Bay Area for over 50 years. As a federally designated Urban Indian Health Project, NAHC brings deep cultural competency to a community where access to culturally responsive care remains critically limited.
The facility will house 20 dental exam rooms, dedicated space for social services, on-site Women, Infants and Children services, and a 300-person capacity cultural community center. NAHC will offer pediatric dental, pediatric and women’s medical care, behavioral and mental health services, and substance use disorder treatment, with a particular focus on youth and adolescents. The clinic will occupy the ground floor of a mixed-use development, with more than 75 affordable housing units developed above by Satellite Affordable Housing Associates.
